rng-vfx teaches agents game VFX.

A skill for coding agents: six styles, three engines, and a live stand to check the result.

rng-vfx stand
The rng-vfx stand: a stylized fire explosion, style and effect tabs on top, a timeline below

One effect, six styles

Anime, toon, stylized, dark fantasy, pixel and realism, each with its own timing and shapes.

Why agent-made effects look cheap

Linear timing, everything glowing at once, one sprite doing every job, alpha fades instead of designed dissipation. rng-vfx gives an agent the process a VFX artist follows, from the gameplay brief to a checked frame strip.

Process
Brief, style, frame breakdown, timing, layers, textures, shaders, motion, engine, budget, verification
Styles
Anime, toon, stylized, dark fantasy, pixel, realism
Physics
Ballistics with drag, curl turbulence, buoyant smoke, blackbody fire, explosion phases, debris, liquids
Shaders
Erosion, gradient maps, step shading, fresnel, flipbooks with motion vectors, distortion, flow maps
Textures
A texture kit, procedural generator, EffectTextureMaker and Rengi Forge tools
Engines
Unity VFX Graph and Shader Graph, Unreal Niagara, three.js
Performance
Budgets per platform, overdraw rules, scalability
Verification
Frame strips, a checklist, and the stand with a script API

Install in your agent

Works in Claude Code as a plugin, and in any agent that reads skills.

Claude Code

/plugin marketplace add MRRengi/rng-vfx
/plugin install rng-vfx@rng-vfx

Any other agent

  • Copy skills/rng-vfx/ into the agent's skills folder
  • For Claude Code by hand: ~/.claude/skills/rng-vfx/
  • Codex, Cursor and others: point them at AGENTS.md

The stand checks every frame

Scrub, step frames, switch styles, toggle grayscale and compare Unity, Unreal or three.js renders next to the live effect.

The stand: an anime explosion with cel-shaded flames and sparks
